The demolition of the Coral Springs Financial Plaza was the start of a large and exciting redevelopment project to further the city’s downtown and entertainment experience. This building was one of the oldest of the city and had been in a state of neglect and disrepair for many years. The demolition process should have taken several weeks working section by section. Engineers knew of the possibility of the building crumbling under the demolition. With the knowledge of this possibility, city photographers were on hand in hopes of recording and documenting the process. The building was brought down piece by piece, until one day in March 2021, a major section was pulled down. Moments later, the remaining weight of the building collapsed upon itself, with brilliant photographic evidence. We were able to truly capture a moment in time, and while the video is quite dramatic – this photo evokes the intensity of the collapse.

This photo captured by Ryan Himmel for the City of Coral Springs and was imported from RAW and edited in Adobe Lightroom.
